Considered the "greenest valley in Italy", Alta Valsesia is located within the UNESCO area of the Sesia Val Grande Geopark, which also includes the Alta Val Sesia and Alta Val Strona Natural Park, which extends up to 4559 meters above sea level (Punta Gnifetti on Monte Rosa), being the highest park in Europe.
The territory of Alta Valsesia includes 17 municipalities (Alagna Valsesia, Alto Sermenza, Balmuccia, Boccioleto, Campertogno, Carcoforo, Cervatto, Cravagliana, Fobello, Mollia, Pila, Piode, Rassa, Rimella, Rossa, Scopa, Scopello) and numerous small hamlets, some of
which are important evidence of ancient Walser settlements.
